Once a Band Geek, Always . . .

What does every band geek want to know?

What is the football team doing on our marching field?

What does every band geek already know?

That it's awfully nice of the football team to schedule their game around the Band's halftime show!

I have really been embracing my inner band geek ever since Laze-E started Band Camp back in August. I have been loving every minute of it - especially since I'm not the one having to do all the hard work to put on a crowd-pleasing, awesome show. As a BandMom, I just get to sit back and enjoy what the band does best - make it worth my while to show up for a football game!

Although I love all band geeks, there is one who is my all time fave. She plays tenor sax, which happens to be my fave instrument. Yeah, yeah, I was also in The Band & played tenor sax, but I swear that had nothing to do with Laze-E's choices.

I love my band geeks, even when they won't cooperate for photo ops.

And, I love them even more when they cooperate with a little bit of attitude.

I love The Band because they are not afraid to go head-to-head with the football jocks. Football might have some heavy-hitting defense players, but The Band has 7 tubas. And, if we failed to learn anything else from American Pie, we learned to never underestimate the flute players.

This is the opening act of every home game. The Band forms two lines on the football marching field & the football team runs through while The Band plays the fight song. Granted, this ain't the way things are done in Texas, but I find it amusing.

This next picture was taken last Saturday at the Marching Band Festival. It warms my heart because it has three of my all-time favorite things:

A very sharp looking Marching Band.

Gorgeous tress with beautiful fall leaves.

A football marching field reserved only for The Band.

Got ID?

Fourteen is the big number for today.

Nope.

That's not the final count on the ManBoxes, but I did tag at least that many boxes in the basement yesterday.

Today is Laze-E's 14th birthday. She's not really excited about 14 but by the fact that it could be legally possible for her to drive in 24 months.

I keep telling her legally doesn't mean reality.

Thankfully, she wasn't informing me she could legally drink in only seven years. So, I must be doing something right in this parenting game called motherhood.

Anyway, I was at our local Walmart picking up a few household supplies & party stuff for tomorrow night. I could go off on a tangent about how there are no SuperWalmarts around these parts, but I'll say that whine for a later date.

So, here I am at a regular Walmart at the check-out line getting all my purchases rung up by a lady who looked way older than me. Granted, she could be way younger than my assumption & I know this because I've been watching more than my fair share of 10 Years Younger on TLC daytime.

All of my items were scanning quite nicely . . . beep . . . beep . . . beep . . . beep . . .

BUZZ!

CashierLady looked at the 4-pack of individual screw top bottles of Merlot quizzically.

And, then looked at me.

Then looked at me again with squinty eyes, totally scrutinizing my every sign of aging.

I remained all smug while I stared her down. Yes ma'am, I just colored my roots, I've been staying out of the sun, I'm a sunscreen/moisturizer wearing fool, microderm abrasion is my new best friend & I do not believe you will find any mom jeans on this fine behind.

I really thought that she was going to let me off with a warning, but noooooo! She asked to see some sort of identification.

Seriously, friends, this is not flattery. If I was to split into two people, one would be old enough to drink & the other old enough to drive. This was just a cashier being a pain in the butt.

After 3 minutes of digging around in my wallet, I did manage to produce a Texas driver's license with proof of age. There! Take that! And, give me the Merlot, thankyouverymuch!

After being overly interested in my birth month (I guess anyone born in December is good to go on the vino) CashierLady hands over the Merlot & other items I have purchased.

Like whole wheat, whole grain bread.

And, heart healthy buttery flavored spread.

And, laxatives.

Yeah, I know. Even sans crows feet, age spots & gray hairs my shopping cart should have served as a big fat clue that I am not a member of the under 20 crowd.

Had I have been purchasing Cheetos, Skittles & berry flavored wine coolers CashierLady may have been on a legitimate expedition to uphold the law.

At what point does being carded cease to be charming & become a joke? Personally, I think that age is about 30.

Do you think cashiers card Oma coming through the line in her motorized scooter when she purchases Fix-a-Dent, Depends, Metamucil & a box of White Zin? Probably.

Does an AARP card serve as proper identification? Who knows?

But, I can tell you one thing. Laze-E probably could have been in & out of there in 2 minutes flat with wine coolers and without getting carded.

Riding in Style

Yesterday, Man & I checked off another little box on our Brussels Escape Plan. This time the little tick mark went in front of Ship the Pilot. Now both of our vehicles are en route to Baltimore & we are driving a rental car for the next week.

This particular rental is a sporty silver BMW. No, it's not that kind of BMW. This one is a manual transmission with cloth seats. But, it's still cute, new and it is a BMW. Even better, it's small enough that we can park it anywhere we want. And, still be able to get out of the car.

Laze-E took a little spin in the car last night while I was ferrying her over to TGirl's haus for yet another sleepover. She was totally checking the car out, imagining herself in the driver's seat, I'm sure. She liked the size, the color & after turning on the radio, deemed the sound system not bad. The über-impressive push button ignition sealed the deal. She wants this car.

Sure thing, Sunshine. Your BMW wish is my command.

While I was ignoring the fact that my 13 year old is planning for her first car to be a new BMW, I did make one comment.

Yeah, those German's sure know how to make a car, don't they?

Her response (and I type with shaky unbelieving fingers . . . )

BMW is German?!

Yeah, SweetPea, it stands for Bavarian Motor Works. Or Bayern Motor Werks to be more specific. You know, Bavaria/Bayern. We lived there.

Twice.

Yes, my friends, this is just more proof that I'm going to have to drag that girl back to Deutschland for another assignment. By that time, she might be (technically) old enough to drive. And, we will certainly buy her a cute little BMW.

Hooptie.

Circa 1992.

Not Autobahn compatible.

Offer void where prohibited by law. Not valid in Alaska or Hawaii. While supplies last.

Temporary Schloss

We made it out of the Haus this week and into the hotel-apartment as we begin Phase 2 of the Move to DC. I don't want to mislead anyone, so let me be very clear about this: we aren't actually living in a hotel room. We have an apartment & it happens to be a very nice, complete with Internet access, full kitchen & digital cable.

But we are so spoiled & accustomed to living a life of luxury (I know, I know, just another middle class sob story) that a 1000 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment, complete with Internet access, full kitchen & digital cable is a big step down for us.

First of all . . . sharing the laptop. All 4 of us?! We were having problems juggling two computers before. Man needs his time to continue to look for a job (I know, I know, at this point it's an addiciton, but if he can fanagle a follow-on Germany assignment, who am I to judge?) & check the news & weather in San Antonio (I know, I know . . .). MiniMe needs her computer time to play Webkinz & Littlest Pet Shop (so they don't die! & yes, I'd like to have a little face-to-face with whomever told her that these particular virtual pets even possess the ability to kick the bucket) and Laze-E who must have proper access to iTunes.

And, me. I need to listen to AOL Awesome 80's, FaceBook & Blog pay bills & search for dinner recipes.

So here we are a the temporary location of Schloss Rockin'Bauer. We were here a whoppinh 15 minutes & everyone immediately got down to business fulfilling our stereotypical roles.

Man's main task was to get the Vonage phone & Internet up and running as quickly as possible. MiniMe's job was to sit quietly on the couch and watch Fairly Odd Parents in Dutch so that we could get the technology situated.

Laze-E immediately started complaining about having to share a room with her sister & they both proceeded to fight over who was going to sleep on which bed. Once you pull out the trundle & pop it up, the beds are the exact same. They were arguing over which wall they wanted to sleep against. Hey, don't accuse my kids of not sweating the small stuff.

Laze-E did take time out from the bitching to strike a pose for me. She's smart enough to know that if she's going to throw a temper tantrum that the photographic evidence may very well be blog-worthy.

When 6 o'clock pm rolled around it was adult TV time (Everybody Hates Chris, According to Jim & Friends - in English) & we booted MiniMe to our bedroom to watch a library movie on the portable DVD player. There's only so much kid-TV we can tolerate. Especially when it's in Dutch.

Once Laze-E claimed her space, it took her all of about, oh, 34 seconds to trash the room out. Here she is yakking on the phone with TGirl, listening to her iPod & staying out of trouble - for this one brief moment in time.

At least I think she was staying out of trouble . . .

Where am I? Behind the camera, silly. I think I mentioned something about sterotypical jobs around the Haus.

That, and I immediately got down to the business of FaceBooking & Blogging vacuuming, scrubbing toilets & cooking dinner.

Hey, we don't call me HausFrau for nothing.

Happy Belated New Year

I've been mulling over how to begin the brand-spanking New Year on the blog & wanted to do something grand for the first day of January. I had lofty ambitions of making inspiring New Year's Resolutions & promising to blog something totally hysterical everyday.

However, in light of a big move hanging over my head, I decided to keep it real (publish when I'm properly inspired) & stick to the Bitch Blogging.

At least for the next few days until the boxes are crated & we are living in the hotel apartment.

This post should serve as the Great Equalizer & make you feel really good about how you spent the first day of 2009. If we accomplished nothing else, I'm sure we are making many of you feel glamorous by comparison.

Yesterday, while I was not blogging, MiniMe demanded that I drag out my camera & take this staged shot of her. She told me that what she was doing needed to go on my blog & don't worry, Mom, I'll even tell you what to say. Great idea! I've been so scatterbrained lately that someone coming up with blog ideas, complete with pictures & words, might help me keep things moving right along & my readers happy.

Stay tuned, folks, with that kind of enthusiasm, it won't be long until MiniMe will be taking BlogSpot by storm.

Yes, my friends, in the picture below she is drawing on packing paper - leftover from the last move that was, oh, not quite 12 months ago. And, she did manage to sorta kinda get dressed. Black velour skirt, pink PJ top & a tiara. That counts as dressed, right?

I spent an incredible amount of time in the kitchen trying to diminish the massive food supply around here. I made wheat bread, banana pancakes, apple oatmeal muffins & cherry-amaretto oatmeal cookies & used up the rest of the flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, cherries & made a decent dent in a mostly full jar of wheat germ.

See? I have no shame. I'm wearing no make-up, ratty clothes & this is my PCStressed smile. Not pretty, but it works well for the Bitch Blogging. And, don't you feel like a Movie Star by comparison?

You're very Welcome. That's what I'm here for.

Man spent the majority of his day on the couch recovering from a silly little cold the ManFlu. He's also taking the ratty clothes & no make-up thing quite seriously.

Last, but certainly not least, Laze-E is also going sans make-up, but she had the nerve to one-up me & is wearing her nicest pair of Consignment Shop jeans. I decided to let her have computer privileges back after 3 weeks of restriction.

Don't ask. You know she did something stupid, got caught and needed a time-out to think about the errors of her ways.

No, I can't remember exactly what she did, but I sure hope she learned her lesson.

Whatever it was.

Maybe, just maybe, she even made a lofty & inspiring New Year's Resolution promising to never do it again.

Flashback to 2001 & 2003

These are my absolute favorite Christmas pictures of my kids.

This one is of Little Laze-E in 2001, age 6.
We were living in Würzburg, Germany.

And, this one is of a 9 month old MiniMe on her first Christmas 2003.
We were in the middle of a PCS from Würzburg to San Antonio & making a pit stop at Nana's Haus in Wichita Falls.

Santa manages to always find us, no matter where in the world we are.

Dear Santa

Fum MiniMe
Two Santa

1 cat wabkinz

scoter
doggie wabkinz

"High School Musical Barbies"

*************************************************
Dear Santa:

I've been mostly good this year.
For Christmas, will you please consider bringing the following:

Clothes, Jewelry, Anything Cheap
Friendship necklace
Bras, Starbucks
Something Crazy/Loud
Water Balloons
iTunes gift card
Swap Flowers
Twilight Stuff
Sugar Cookies :O)
Hooker heels - 6
Slutty Girls, Dr. Pepper
2 X thongs, Candy Phone
Paper Money, Socks & Ding Dongs

And, a sleepover with TGirl this weekend.

Tell the Reindeer that I said "Hi". Love, Laze-E
**********************************************************
Dear Santa:

Hey, I know that we are both super busy. I'm a HausFrau, you are Santa. Need I say more? I'll make this easy on both of us. How about two pink EPT lines for Christmas? And, I'll see if Man can cover you on that iTouch.

Gotta Run, ~Savvy
**********************************************************
Dear St. Nick:

Hey, Big Guy. I know that you are almost as busy as my Frau, so I'll make this simple. One pink line is just fine & dandy with me. And, I'll buy her that stupid iTouch for her birthday. If nothing else, just so I quit hearing about it.

Really, just one, OK? ~Man
**********************************************************
Dear Santa:

For Christmas I would really like for you to bring me my wife (CoopaChick) three brand new boob-tops. Not that I necessarily want her driving around topless in the Coopa flashing her über-boobs to Herman The German, but, Dude, you are a guy (you are, aren't you?) & you understand my need to see a little action.

Even if it's just on a few blurry pixels on my Facebook occasionally.

I'll leave the size issue up to you since you, especially since I screwed up that donkey hair sweater from Bosnia that one time.

I promise to be a good boy this next year too while in Iraq.

Just 3 boob-tops that's all I asking.

Okay, maybe 4 or 5 if you think I've been that good. I mean, it's not like I'm asking for a pony or anything. And, you know, boob-tops with those plunging necklines take up way less room on the sleigh than a pony, a regular shirt or even a turtleneck.

Have you seen how much fabric are in one of those bad boys?

It's almost as much as the donkey sweater.

I don't mean to beg, but I'm feeling a little desperate here. If you can't figure out this boob-top thing, I'm not sure how I'll make it through the rest of my training & the deployment.

OK, Santa, I know you are busy, but if you could just help a guy out here, I'd be mucho grateful. I even promise not to fight you for the milk & cookies on the 24th.

Merry Christmas to you! (& hopefully a Ho-Ho-Ho to me!)

Dan the CoopaMan
*************************************************************
Dear Santa:

I'd like to amend my wish-list. Still one pink line & 3 more new boob-tops for me the Frau. Ho, Ho, Ho Boy!

~Man
*************************************************************
Dear Santa:

All I want for Christmas is World Peace.

However, on the boob-tops, I look really good in blues & greens. Maybe a little red & black to keep it interesting because that would look so awesome with my gray Coopa!

Mwah! ~CoopaChick
*******************************************************************

***********************************************************
Dear Santa:

3 new boob-tops would work for me. Remember, two pink lines will help me fill them out quite nicely.

Oh yeah, and World Peace. Don't want to sound selfish or anything.

~Savvy
************************************************************
Dear Santa:

Did someone mention boob-tops?! I completely forgot to add those to my list! They will look lovely with the new hooker heels, bras & thongs. Don't forget the Dr. Pepper.

Love, ~Laze-E XXOOX
************************************************************
Dear Santa:

Clothes, jewelry & anything cheap. Those were the Top 3 on Laze-E's wish list. Cheap as in Consignment Shop, not as in Debbie Does Dallas, OK?

Thanks, Santa, you are the best! ~Savvy
*************************************************************
Dear Santa:

Did I hear someone mention a PONY?! Please, please, please!

I'll be good forever! ~MiniMe

Kindergarten Politics

MiniMe piped up this evening and informed me that there are two guys running for president because they both want George Washington's old job. Then she told me that she voted today for the Broccoli Bama guy.

Me: Oh, that's nice. Why did you chose him?

MiniMe: Because I like him.

Me: Well, why do you like him?

MiniMe: Because he likes children.

Me: How do you know he likes children.

MiniMe: Because he just does.

Me: Why didn't you vote for the other guy, John McCain.

MiniMe: Because he's old.

I pondered this conversation for a minute & wondered how many adults were choosing their candidate based on this same kind of logic. Then I decided it was probably quite a few.

And, I still really wanted to know why MiniMe was convinced that Broccoli Bama likes children, especially since our Haus is not a hotbed of political discussions. I got my answer when I sorted through her homework folder:

This was on the inside of her Weekly Reader. Honestly, if you were five, who would you chose for president? The serious old guy shaking students' hands or the smiling guy who is hugging the little boy?

Visual propaganda just claimed another victim. My child.

The one who doesn't even like broccoli.

Subject: Autumn Fest Party

Dear Mrs. Rockin'Bauer,

During class time today, we were discussing the fact that we do not celebrate the holidays at school. This is to include Halloween, Christmas and Easter.

MiniMe was most insistent that I had approved a Halloween Party. I am sure that this is a misunderstanding on her part. Because we, and I repeat, do not celebrate Halloween at school. It is a school policy not to celebrate any of the religious holidays including Christmas, Halloween and Easter.

Instead, as you should be aware since you are a Room Mother, we are celebrating Autumn Harvest (again, not Halloween) and Winter Break (again, not Christmas).

Any of our classroom parties cannot be connected with these holidays, as you should be well aware since you are one of the Room Mothers. Our Autumn Harvest party will be on the 30th of October, not the 31st.

We will be celebrating Valentines' Day in February & Dr. Suess Day in March, neither of which are religious holidays.

Perhaps you could clarify this with MiniMe.

Miss D

Dear Miss D:

I apologize if MiniMe was in any way rude or argumentative over the finer details of what to call the party scheduled for later this month. You see, we don't actually celebrate Autumn at our house, only Halloween. If she appears to be confused, it's because of the environment in which she is being raised. Think of it as a basic freedom of religion and speech.

However, I do realize that the party scheduled for the end of this month is to have an Autumn theme. Remember, I took an oath to make goodie bags, snacks and crafts for all non-religious holiday celebrations when I agreed to be the Room Mama.

I will have a little chit-chat with MiniMe about not mentioning the "H" word while at school. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Me:
Hey MiniMe, I got an email from your teacher today. Were you aruging with her about Halloween?

MiniMe:
No. She just told us that we couldn't celebrate Halloween at school because not all parents and children believe in Halloween.

Me:
Well, that's right. We are having an Autumn Harvest Party instead.

MiniMe:
But, I believe in Halloween! I really do! I believe!

Me: You do? Just what exactly do you believe in?

MiniMe:
I believe in the Candy.

Me:
Anything else?

MiniMe:
No. Just the Candy.

The school is obviously kicking off their annual Box Top for Education campaign drive this month. This was located in MiniMe's homework folder today:

***********************************************************************
Upon hearing about today's emails & conversations, Laze-E inquired:

Isn't it Saint Valentine's Day? Doesn't Saint imply religion?

Me: Shhhhhhhhh. Don't let that black cat out of the bag. Or we'll have to have a President's Day Party instead . . .

My Artistic Math Genius Girls

Of course, they can't help but to come by it maternally naturally. In case you couldn't extrapolate from the post title, I'll go ahead and spill the beans: this is a straight-up shameless mommy brag. If you aren't into that kind of thing, might I recommend Woman Who Mistakes Skunk For Cat? Heck, I suggest reading that story anyway. BB Lady could definitely teach her a thing or two.

If you are still with me, I'll assume you are dying to hear more about my children, so here goes. The Kindergarten Class read Lollipop Dragon last week and were asked by Miss D to illustrate the story.

I must point out (for the sake of keeping it real) that MiniMe didn't exactly spell her name correctly. I'm sure she just forgot her "t" & it doesn't matter. Remember, I'm bragging about her amazing freehand drawing ability & incredible use of color. Not her spelling or SAT verbal ability.

Of course, she traced the dot-letters to spell out "Lollipop Dragon". Hopefully, she made all those letters correctly with perfect directionality. Not that I can tell that after the fact, and you can't either & neither can her teacher, just for the record. I did happen to notice the obvious lack of big A's. I guess the 5 year olds mastered that learning objective & have moved on.

Next up in the spotlight is none other than Laze-E herself. She had science homework last week to create a circle graph/pie chart on the computer from given data. Instead of coming straight to me for a little professional advice, she asked Man how to make the graph in Excel. She asked Man and not me? Obviously, I'm not bragging about her decision making skill set.

Anyway, Man defensively immediately declared that it was not possible & that she needed to quit being Laze-E lazy & just trace the Miracle Whip lid on a piece of graph paper & use the straight edge of a PopTart box to divide the circle. And, hurry up, get your homework done, take your plate to the kitchen, pick up your popsicle wrapper, put your shoes on the shelf, did you do your chores, shouldn't you be in bed already?

Did you happen to notice the Y-chromosome Trademark of changing the subject to dodge any declarations of ignorance? Because I sure did.

And, for those of you not well versed in ManSpeak, I'll translate for you. All that garbledy-gook about Miracle Whip and PopTarts meant that he had no clue at all how to make a graph in Excel & that he didn't want to figure it out during NCIS any time soon. And certainly not tonight while there were plates to be picked up, popsicle wrappers to be disposed of, shoes to be put away & chores to do done.

While all the above was transpiring in the living room, I quietly pulled up Excel on my computer & a step-by-step web page on how to make a circle graph. I rescued Laze-E from Man & sat her down at my desk.

She quickly figured out how to make the graph & was parading it in front of Man within 15 minutes. He said good job, E! That's really impressive. Now, are your chores done? Shouldn't you be in bed?

Man & I tag team as much as possible with the good cop/bad cop routine. And, with dropping the ball. And, striking out. So the next night, I took one for the team & fumbled miserably. I was in the middle of my evening momologue: pick your shoes up, did you do your chores, get the popcicle wrappers off my desk, don't you need to be getting in the shower, do you have your homework done, put your plate in the dishwasher when Laze-E asked for a bit of computer time to figure out the combination to a locked lock. After all, it only took 2 seconds to throw away the popcicle stick, put a plate in the dishwasher & pick up shoes, so she was good to go. Homework and chores were done. Or so she said.

I agreed to 15 minutes of computer time but gave her a finger-wagging lecture on how it wouldn't (couldn't? shouldn't?) be possible to crack the code. Besides, if you could just look up the serial number & have the Internet pop up the correct combination, then what's the point of having a lock? And, no MySpace, missy. Or Webkinz. Got it? And, don't spend too long trying to open that dumb lock because you have school tomorrow & need to hit the hay.

So much for supportive parenting & encouraging your kids to reach for the stars.

Turns out, finding the right combination is only a little more complicated than just entering a serial number, but not much. The computer will narrow down possible combinations from 10's of thousands to only 64. After that, it's a matter of holding the lock a certain way to feel the inner movements of the pins & a little patience in the trial & error department.

She did it. Laze-E cracked the combination! Not only am I beaming proud of her critical thinking & determination, I'm doing a happy frugal dance.

She just saved me $5 for a new lock. And, a shopping trip to find one.

Go, Laze-E!

Seriously, had it not been my turn to play bad parent, I would have been a little more forthcoming with encouragement.

Now, I just need to make sure my kids are using their talents for the greater good of mankind & not for nefarious deeds. Hopefully, this story will never make it to print:

Rockin'Bauer Sisters Rob Bank

In a well planned and executed stick-up, sisters make off with $10M. The youngest of the two, MiniMe distracts security guard by agreeing to autograph her latest NY Times bestselling children's book series for his daughter while Laze-E expertly cracks the code to the bank's vault. Computer forensic experts determine the two extensively utilized Excel pie charts to plan felony. Popsicle wrappers found at the scene are being analyzed for fingerprints & DNA. Click here for full story.

Oh, is nefarious an SAT word?! Did I finally manage use one of them suckers?!

Guess Who

If you've been paying attention, these should be super easy.
Good Luck with this First Round of Guess Who!

1. Who was Man referring to when he said, "Hey, she's not stupid, she's just lazy."

2. Who was holding up the other end of this conservation?

??: Oh, I just farted! (insert obnoxious giggling)

Me: Oh, thanks a lot. (insert eyeroll) You don't do that in school, do you?

??: Yeah. (insert more giggling)

Me: Then what do you do?

??: I just move to another area. (insert an I'm-oh-so-clever smile)

3. Who can be credited with the following?

??: Hey, Mom. Do you think coconuts come in D-Cup different sizes?

4. Who expertly snapped this picture while driving in traffic?

Laze-E vs. MiniMe

My new plan not to nag Laze-E about how her room looks is working out splendidly. I save myself the mental energy of momcidal fits gentle reminders AND the rooms looks exactly the same. Genius plan, huh? I was just sitting back waiting on her to want something . . .

It only took 4 days. She wants a sleepover with SundayRose (her friend who could easily pass for Nicole Kidman's daughter) on Friday night. Which is great for me because my currency is a clean room.

Which is bad for her because I'm not sure if she can get it done before Saturday morning. She did want to know just why can't I take the bus home with SundayRose right after school on Friday?! I couldn't think of anything appropriately smart-elic to say, so I said nothing. And, the silence was deafening.

But silence is my Haus is always momentary because MiniMe also resides here. In her clean room! Yes, I did help her clean it, but that involved mostly throwing 101 Little Pets into the drawer.

The freakish My Size Barbie was purchased at the Thrift Shop with a mere $2 in change from MiniMe's piggy bank. She keeps referring to the Barb as her little sister - which I find incredibly disturbing for several reasons.

Much to Laze-E's dismay, she also has to clean up her bathroom before I drive her to a sleepover. Seriously, if she'd just return all HairTools to their proper place, it's not that bad.

By Frat Haus standards.

While one child has a hairdryer and two round brushes in her sink, the other has rose petals. Honestly, I can't give the specifics as to why or how. I'm thinking MiniMe must have been left unattended while I was blogging making a nutritious homecooked meal.

Doesn't MiniMe's bathtub make you want to get out the Mr. Bubbles and dive in?

And, before you ask, Freakish My Size Barbie is not allowed in the tub.

Especially naked.

Ever.

Geiselwind Freizeitpark

Warum ich Freizeitparks in Deutschland liebe:
Why I love Amusement parks in Germany:

Because the skies are blue and the entrance looks like this:

Because there are actually wine themed rides:

Because Frankische Weinfahrt beats teacups hands down.
Or up! as the case my be:

Because there are roller coasters that everyone can ride:
Left to right: MiniMe, C-Cuite, Laze-E & E-Girl

Becasue the photo opps are awesome:
Heather & her youngest, S-Cutie

Because not all rides have to be loaded with bells & whistles:

Because they remind me of volksmarches we've located before GPS -- let me tell ya, Frickenhausen wasn't called Frickenhausen when the Rockin'Bauers finally arrived after driving around lost for over 1 hour.

Are we there yet? Take 2

I've decided that it's more fun to travel with at least one other adult, provided you get to chose which adult. At least with Man or one of my girlfriends, someone will actually talk to me. When traveling solo with the kinder, I end up being just the sounding board for all whining, griping, complaining, bitching and all verbal &/or nonverbal expressions of dissatisfaction. I'm cold. I'm hot. I have to pee right now! It's taking too long. When will we be there? Why can't you highlight my hair tonight when we get home?! But, Mom, I want my highlights, right now!

Another adult might actual care about how I'm handling the trip & show some consideration. Do I need a pee break? Would I fancy a diet soda? What might be nice to listen to on the CD player? Do we need to switch drivers? It's okay, I got it. I'll yell at the kids this time . . .

OK, so traveling with a buddy is more fun, but that wasn't my reality. This was a Git'R Done RoadTrip - school starts tomorrow, pedal to the metal. Just me & the girls and miles and miles of Autobahn stretched before us. And, having had the recent experience of traveling with the same kids, I was ready to have a different tale to tell for the return trip.

We pulled onto the A3 late yesterday morning and all was well, Enchanted playing (a-freaking-gain) on the surround sound. 24 minutes into our journey, MiniMe started foaming at the mouth because she can't get her 3 pillows fluffed just so. Somehow that meltdown quickly disintegrated into pillow throwing and a kicking temper tantrum - something about our not fluffing pillows to perfection posthaste. That song & dance was quickly followed by I hate you! I hate Sissy! I hate the both of you! etc. etc. blah, blah, blah.

For the record, that was so not cool. But darned if I didn't have to keep driving because there was no where to pull over legally.

It was during that small part of the drive (between pillow tossing & Pilot parking) that I decided patience is way overrated, it just delays the inevitable. I tried that on the trip down & told you all about it, play by play. I know some of you were gritting your teeth for my putting-up with what I did in the name of tolerance, understanding & love. I mostly restrained myself for that 7 hours of RoadTrip fun & as a result, had to fall face first into a bucket of margaritas at my final destination.

Then there was that unpleasant hangover bit.

Not wanting a repeat of that anytime soon ever, I decided to handle myself in a manner that smacked of Malcolm in the Middle's Mom. Stress relief without the ethanol.

So, 3 minutes later when I did find a parkplatz, I whipped the Pilot off the Autobahn & relieved MiniMe of her seat belt in one fell swoop, dragging her darling butt out of the vehicle. We had a little Come to Jesus Meetin' on the side of A3, with it being Sunday and all, it was appropriate. That brief display of parental fortitude bought me 7 hours of relative peace & quiet for the rest of the trip.

Go, HausFrau. Go, HausFrau.

Hallelujah!

Incidentally, I'm not the only one who's gone momicidal on the side of the Autobahn. I ran into a friend of mine in Wiesbaden - in the restroom of the food court of all places. Small world, isn't it? Everyone using the same loo.

Anyway, upon chatting with her - later at the actual food court, over Burger King chicken fries - we swapped some RoadTrip tales. Remember my mentioning something about it not being legal to just pull over on the side of the road? Well, when she was faced with similar traveling meltdown issues, she didn't care. She just stopped the car, put on the hazard lights & climbed over the back of the seat . . .

Could you imagine sitting there, strapped into your carseat, throwing a mack-daddy temper tantrum & having one pissed-off mum flying over the seat, headed straight toward your center of happiness?

Wow.

I'm definitely going to remember that one.

And, should I be traveling with another adult, we wouldn't necessarily have to pull over. There goes HausFrau, kicking butt, taking names & hauling-A on the highway.

Kindy vs. 8th

First Day of Kindergarten: The official first day of school. Up early, looking cute with very little effort. Plenty of time to be snappy with the camera at home, in the car & sitting in the new classroom. Showing off the new Tigger backpack and Barbie lunch box. Smiles, hugs & kisses for Mommy. Everything is happy & full of sunshine. Life is good.

First Day of 8th Grade: Up early, but slow-poke around with the hair straightener & make-up to get the cute going. Try on 3 different outfits, don't dare wear what was chosen the night before. Trip over mountain of clothes on the floor. Be totally oblivious to any predictable increments of time ticking away. Get pissy with mom for verbalizing said increments of time. Look for lunch bag. Screw it. Get pissy with Mom about the time: Gosh, Mom! I know what time it is! Grab lunch & shove it into backpack. Decide to locate saxophone. Rush out the door only after Mom spots the bus coming down the street. Get pissy with Mom because the bus is coming. No time to pose for pictures.
